Okonomi-mura

Three-storey building housing 25 okonomiyaki stalls — the best introduction to the Hiroshima style

A food hall devoted entirely to Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, with around 25 individual operators spread across three floors. Each stall is a tiny counter with a hot iron griddle; you sit and watch your chef build the dish layer by layer — crêpe base, mountain of shredded cabbage, sliced pork, yakisoba noodles, egg, then topped with a sweet brown sauce and Japanese mayonnaise. It takes about 15 minutes from raw ingredients to plate.

The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious. All the stalls produce good food; choose by which counter has a seat free. Expect to pay ¥900–1,200 for a standard okonomiyaki. The building is near Hatchobori, a short walk from the Hondori tram stop. Open roughly 11:00–22:00 daily.
