Awakura Shrine is a small local shrine with an outsized cypress in its precincts, said locally to be more than 800 years old. It is not a famous shrine circuit stop, but it gives the village's forest identity a rooted, lived-in centre.
Pair it with the onsen or a walk through the village rather than treating it as a standalone destination.
