Wakasugi Primeval Forest is Nishiawakura's strongest reason to visit. The protected forest sits high near the Tottori border, with beech, maple, oak, mossy rocks, waterfalls, and walking loops that are short enough for a half-day but wild enough to feel removed from the village below.
Come between spring and autumn; winter closures affect the toilets and parking area. Autumn colour is the obvious draw, but summer is good too, when the shade and water make the forest feel much cooler than the lowlands.
