Ogaya Shibazakura Park is a seasonal stop, worth the detour when the moss phlox is in bloom around late April and early May. The flowers spread in low pink and purple carpets over the slope, turning an otherwise small rural park into one of Nishiawakura's prettiest spring scenes.
Outside the short bloom window it is minor, so check timing before building a day around it.
