Mount Sanbe gives Oda a completely different rhythm from the silver-mining coast. The six-peak volcanic massif rises to 1,126 metres and sits within Daisen-Oki National Park, with broad grassy slopes, hiking trails, seasonal flowers, and hot springs around the base.
The Sanbe area is especially good if you want a nature day rather than another town walk. Pair a hike with the Shimane Nature Museum of Mount Sanbe or the Sanbe Azukihara Buried Forest, where ancient trees preserved by volcanic activity make the mountain's geology feel immediate.
