Okayama is proud of demi-katsudon, a bowl of rice topped with pork cutlet and a dark demi-glace sauce instead of the usual egg. It is filling, slightly old-fashioned, and exactly the sort of regional comfort food that rewards a station-area dinner.
The prefecture is also famous for peaches and muscat grapes. In season, look for fruit parfaits in cafes and department-store food halls; they are not cheap, but the fruit quality is the point.
