This preserved Ashimori merchant house was once connected to soy sauce production, and visitors can see tools and spaces used in the trade. It adds a merchant and craft angle to an area better known for samurai residences and gardens.
It is best visited as part of a wider Ashimori stop with the Former Ashimori Domain Samurai Residence and Omizuen Garden. On its own, it is modest; together with the nearby sights, it helps the district feel lived in.
