Korakuen

Korakuen is one of Japan's three celebrated landscape gardens and the main reason to linger in Okayama. It spreads out in broad lawns and water, with tea houses, groves, bridges, and framed views of the castle.

The garden changes mood with the season: plum and cherry blossoms in spring, bright greens in early summer, maples in autumn, and a quieter winter geometry. Arrive early for space, especially on weekends.

A story
Korakuen was designed as a strolling garden for the daimyo, not as a single framed view. Its lawns, ponds, tea fields, cranes, and borrowed castle backdrop reveal themselves as you move, which is why rushing through misses the point.
