Japan-US Friendship Hall

Small museum on Oshima Island about early Japan-US contact.

Japan-US Friendship Hall commemorates the arrival of the American ship Lady Washington at Kushimoto in 1791, decades before Commodore Perry's better-known arrival. The museum is small, but it gives Oshima Island another historical layer alongside the Turkish Memorial and Museum.

Visit it as part of a loop around the eastern end of the island rather than as a stand-alone trip. The coastal setting and nearby memorials make the combined visit more interesting than the museum alone.
