Umikongo Rock Formations

Rugged Oshima coast of angular Pacific rock forms, best combined with the island's memorials and lighthouse.

Umikongo is Oshima Island at its roughest: dark, angular rocks cut by the Pacific, with shapes that invite a little imagination. It is less famous than Hashigui-iwa, but it gives a better sense of the wave-battered coast beyond the town centre.

Visit it as part of an Oshima loop with the Turkish memorial and Kashinozaki Lighthouse. The individual stop is short; the combined coastal circuit is the point.
