Nakamura-ro

Kaiseki restaurant inside Yasaka Shrine's torii, founded in 1716 and among the oldest in Gion

Nakamura-ro stands just inside the stone torii of Yasaka Shrine and has been feeding pilgrims and courtiers since 1716. The kitchen specialises in the Kyoto kaiseki tradition -- multiple small courses following the progression of the seasons -- in private tatami rooms overlooking Maruyama Park's western boundary.

The afternoon tea service in the garden-facing rooms is less formal and far less expensive than a full kaiseki dinner, and provides a good introduction to the restaurant's setting. Reserve several weeks in advance for an evening kaiseki.
