Nagahama packs a surprising amount into a small space. The old machiya streets east of the station blend seamlessly into the Kurokabe Glass Quarter, and Nagahama Castle anchors the lakeshore a short walk to the west. The city is equally rewarding to wander without a plan as it is to tick off systematically — nearly everything of interest lies within comfortable walking distance of the station.
