Okawa Museum of Art

The Okawa Museum of Art sits on a hillside above Kiryu and holds a private collection built over decades by Eiji Okawa. It is especially strong on Shunsuke Matsumoto and Hideo Noda, with other modern Japanese and international works in a building that reveals itself room by room.

It is a good counterweight to the textile sights. After a morning of mills and merchant streets, the museum shows another side of Kiryu's culture: quiet, personal, and a little more ambitious than the city's size might suggest.
