Kominato and Kopepe are the easy beach pair on Chichijima's southwest coast, set in a bright bay below green ridges. Kominato has the broader sweep of sand; Kopepe is smaller and better known for snorkelling when the water is calm.
The beaches work well as a first afternoon after the ferry, when you want salt water and a slow walk rather than a full tour. Trails and lookouts above the bay give the classic view back over the coves and reef-coloured shallows.
