The New York Bar at the Park Hyatt Shinjuku became globally famous as the setting for Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation (2003), and it has sustained that glamour ever since. The bar occupies the 52nd floor of the hotel, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Shinjuku skyline and, on clear evenings, the silhouette of Mount Fuji to the south-west.
The cocktails are expensive but expertly made. Live jazz plays most evenings from 8pm, when a cover charge applies. This is an occasion rather than a casual drink — worth it for the combination of music, view, and the very specific Tokyo atmosphere that Coppola captured.
