Marion Crepes opened on Takeshita Street in 1976 and is generally credited with starting the Harajuku crepe craze that has since spread across Japan and beyond — sweet, folded crepes loaded with whipped cream, fruit, chocolate, and increasingly elaborate toppings, eaten standing up on the street. Decades on, it's still one of the busiest stands on the block, with queues most afternoons.
It's a small, simple thing, but a genuinely original piece of Harajuku's identity rather than a recent tourist confection — worth the wait once, if only to see what started the trend that now fills half the street.
