Tōgō Shrine, dedicated to the Meiji-era admiral Tōgō Heihachirō, sits a short walk from the crowds of Takeshita Street but feels like a different world — a wooded compound around a small pond, genuinely quiet even on busy weekends. The contrast with the street just beyond its gate is the point: a moment of calm in the middle of Harajuku's busiest few blocks.
On the first, fourth, and fifth Sundays of the month, the shrine grounds host one of Tokyo's better antique and flea markets, with dealers selling kimono, ceramics, prints, and bric-a-brac from stalls set up among the trees.
