Minato Mirai Waterfront Dining

The Minato Mirai district has the highest concentration of restaurants with harbour views, ranging from casual to upscale. The Red Brick Warehouse (Aka Renga) is the most atmospheric option: the converted Victorian warehouses hold a cluster of small restaurants and cafes on the ground floor, with a terrace that looks directly onto the water. The food is international and good without being exceptional — pizza, pasta, craft beer, and light Japanese food — but the setting more than compensates.

For a more substantial meal, the upper floors of Queen's Square and Landmark Plaza contain a range of Japanese and international restaurants, several with views toward the bay. The Yokohama Granbell Hotel's rooftop bar and neighbouring restaurants in the World Porters mall are popular for sunset dinners. Reservations are advisable at weekends.

The area also has reliable ramen and soba shops at street level if you want something quick between sights. The combination of a good meal and an evening stroll along the waterfront — the Landmark Tower and Cosmo Clock lit up, the Bay Bridge in the distance — is one of the pleasures of spending a night in Yokohama rather than rushing back to Tokyo.
