Beppu is served by Beppu Station on the JR Nippo Main Line. From Fukuoka (Hakata Station), the limited express Sonic reaches Beppu in about 2 hours and 15 minutes. From Oita, which has bullet train connections to Fukuoka and beyond, local trains cover the 15-minute journey to Beppu frequently.
Beppu is also accessible by ferry from Osaka and Kobe (Shin Moji Ferry and others), with overnight crossings making a useful and economical alternative to flying. The ferry terminal is close to the city centre. Oita Airport, about 45 minutes away by bus, handles domestic flights from Tokyo and other major Japanese cities.
