The Fukuoka Art Museum sits on the southern edge of Ohori Park, a city art museum with a collection that balances traditional Japanese and Asian art against an international modern and contemporary collection. The modern section holds works by Dalí, Warhol, and Miró alongside significant Japanese 20th-century pieces; the traditional Asian galleries cover pottery and decorative arts from across East and Southeast Asia.
The museum underwent a major renovation in 2019 and reopened with improved galleries and a new café with a terrace overlooking the park. The collection is not of the scale of Tokyo or Osaka institutions but is well-presented and worth a couple of hours. Entry fees apply to the main galleries while some special exhibitions charge separately. The park setting makes it a natural stop as part of a walk through the Ohori Park and castle ruins area.
