Fukuoka Tower

Fukuoka Tower stands on the Momochi seafront reclamation district west of the city centre, a 234-metre reflective-glass structure that is the city's most recognizable modern landmark. The observation deck at 123 metres gives a 360-degree panorama: Hakata Bay to the north, the Fukuoka city sprawl inland, and the coastal hills of Itoshima to the west. On clear days the mountains of Kyushu are visible to the south.

The tower is most dramatic at night, when the mirror glass panels reflect the city lights and the roof is illuminated differently each season. Evening is the recommended visiting time for views. The surrounding Momochi district is a reclaimed land development with Fukuoka's sports stadiums, a beach, and the Fukuoka City Museum within easy walking distance. The tower is about a 20-minute walk from the Tenjin shopping district or reachable by bus from the city centre.

A story
Fukuoka Tower is Japan's tallest seaside tower at 234 metres, and its outer shell is constructed from 8,000 half-mirror panels that reflect the sky differently depending on the season and time of day. The architects designed it to appear to dissolve into the sky rather than dominate the seafront — an unusual ambition for a commercial observation tower.
