Bansuiso

Bansuiso is a French-style villa built in 1922 for Hisamatsu Sadakoto, the former lord of Matsuyama Castle. After studying in France, he brought that taste back to Matsuyama, leaving the city with a romantic Western-style building very different from its castle and onsen architecture.

The house is a pleasant short visit for its period rooms, exterior details, and hill setting near the Saka no Ue no Kumo Museum. It helps show how early 20th-century Japan borrowed European styles without losing its local context.
