Yamagata Museum of Art is the city's main art museum, close to Kajo Park and Yamagata Castle. The permanent collection includes Japanese artists such as Kichiro Hasegawa and works connected to Matsuo Basho, alongside European pieces including works attributed to Claude Monet.
Temporary exhibitions change often and are usually the reason to check the schedule. It is an easy cultural stop while walking between the castle area and central Yamagata.
