Madaba Archaeological Museum

The Madaba Museum (sometimes called the Folklore Museum) occupies a sequence of restored traditional houses just north of the Archaeological Park. As well as more mosaic floors moved here from sites across the governorate, it has a good ethnographic collection: traditional costumes, Bedouin tents, jewellery, agricultural tools, and reconstructed nineteenth-century domestic interiors.

The mosaics are the main draw — including a beautiful sixth-century Asarotos ("unswept floor") mosaic of scattered food remains, a clever Roman trompe-l'oeil. The museum is small and easily seen in 45 minutes, and provides useful context after the bigger Byzantine sites in town.
