A modern museum at the site entrance, opened in 2019, that does the job the old site museum never quite managed. The collection is organised chronologically — from Neolithic flints at Beidha through Edomite, Nabataean and Roman material — and includes the best of the recent finds: column capitals from the Temple of the Winged Lions, painted plaster fragments, a hoard of bronze figurines.
Allow 45 minutes. The lighting is good and the labels are bilingual. Best visited at the end of your Petra day, when the names are familiar; doing it on day one is harder going.
