Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Salt. The town sits at around 900 metres elevation, which makes it cooler than the Jordan Valley below but still comfortable for walking. Summer temperatures can exceed 35°C, which makes the steep lanes of the old town harder work than they need to be.
Winters are mild but can be rainy and occasionally cold enough for frost. The UNESCO Heritage celebrations in late spring sometimes bring cultural events to the town. The annual Salt Festival, usually held in April or May, showcases local crafts, food, and music.
