Karakol rewards both the historically curious and the adventure-minded. The town itself has a handful of remarkable buildings — most memorably the Dungan Mosque, which looks like a Chinese pagoda — while the valleys and ridges immediately above town are among the finest trekking terrain in Central Asia. The Sunday market is one of the most authentic livestock bazaars you will find anywhere.
