Earth Bar

Coffee by day, craft cocktails by night, in a relaxed split-level space near the river

Earth Bar occupies a pleasant space a short walk from the river and does double duty as a daytime cafe and evening bar. The espresso machine is the real thing — a significant distinction in a town where most coffee is still Nescafé dissolved in hot water. By evening the menu shifts to cocktails and mocktails made with local fruits, and the low lighting and ambient music create a different character to the open-air garden bars elsewhere.

The split-level layout means there are good perches both upstairs and down. Upstairs catches a breeze and has views over the rooftops towards the karst. The bar stocks a reasonable selection of spirits and the staff actually know how to make drinks. It fills up after nine on weekends.
