Batu Pahat is known across Johor as a textile town — fabric and garments are available at significantly lower prices than in Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur. Jalan Penggaram, lined with colonial shophouses, is the most atmospheric shopping street, with textile merchants and clothing shops. The pasar malam (night markets) rotate through different streets each evening and sell everything from fresh produce to cheap clothing and household goods. Several large modern malls — The Summit, Batu Pahat Mall — cater to mainstream shopping needs.
