Festivals in Cameron Highlands

Cameron Highlands in Malaysia celebrates a number of festivals on different occasions, and Cameron Highlands festivals are exciting events that tourists can enjoy as much as locals.

Highlands** Harmonica Festival

**Started by the Malaysian Harmonica Society, this is turning out to be one of the most anticipated festivals in the region. It is held in July and celebrations include non-competitive participation from groups. Expert harmonica musicians are also invited to perform different styles of music at these celebrations. Seminars are held by master harmonica players to teach amateurs about different aspects of the instrument.

**Flower Festival

**Another popular festival celebrated in Cameron Highlands is the Flower Festival. This festival is held every year in August or September to exalt the agricultural produce and colorful blossoms at this highland resort. There are various events held throughout the region all through the festival. These include competitions, parades, flower exhibitions, demonstrations, and cuisine and traditional cultural shows.

**Deepavali

**This festival is celebrated on the 5th of November by Hindus in Cameron Highlands and all over Malaysia. Also known as the Festival of Lights, Deepavali marks the victory of good over evil. Thanksgiving prayers and cleansing rituals take place at altars in homes and temples throughout the country.

**Hungry Ghost Festival

**The Hungry Ghost Festival is held on the 7th moon and the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar calendar. This festival mostly falls in August and includes Chinese puppet shows and operas. These performances are more popular in villages and towns that have a larger Chinese population. The festival is meant to pay homage to ancestors and neglected souls that are roaming between both worlds.
