The Chendor beach turtle sanctuary lies a few kilometres north of Cherating. Between June and September, green turtles come ashore at night to lay eggs on the beach. Guided night visits let you watch nesting turtles at close range without disturbing them — wardens manage the access carefully to protect both the turtles and their nests. Chendor is one of the more accessible turtle-watching sites in Malaysia; you don't need to travel far north to Terengganu or Sabah to see it. Arrange a visit through your guesthouse or join a group tour from the village.
