Shopping is the main reason most Singaporeans cross the Causeway. The Malaysian Ringgit gives visitors spending Singapore dollars considerable purchasing power, and JB has built up the infrastructure to absorb them — from City Square mall right beside the immigration checkpoint to the sprawling Johor Premium Outlets in Kulai, about 30 minutes north, where international brands sell at factory prices. The older Holiday Plaza and Plaza Pelangi cater more to locals and offer good deals on electronics, clothing, and everyday goods. Most malls are open daily from 10am to 10pm.
