Kuantan River Esplanade

Riverside promenade along the Kuantan River, best at dusk when the city cools

The Kuantan River runs through the heart of the city and its esplanade is the most pleasant stretch of public space in town. The waterfront has been developed over the past decade with a paved promenade, benches, and food stalls, and at dusk it becomes genuinely lively — couples walking, families with children, and the occasional fisherman casting a line off the bank.

The esplanade runs for about two kilometres and gives views across to the mangrove-lined far bank, where fishing boats are moored in the evening. The Kuantan 188 tower stands at the northern end and is worth climbing for the aerial perspective. The stalls along the river serve the usual Malaysian roster of grilled corn, iced drinks, and satay, and on weekends a night market operates near the old town end.
