Pahang's state mosque stands on the northern edge of the city centre, its green-domed bulk visible from most of Kuantan. The architecture draws from both Malay and Mughal traditions, with a large central dome, flanking minarets, and elaborately tiled interiors. The prayer hall is vast and cool, the carpets soft enough to suggest considerable investment.
Non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside of the five daily prayer times — ask at the entrance and a robe will be provided if your clothing is not considered appropriate. The surrounding gardens and reflecting pools make for a pleasant wander in the early morning or late afternoon, and there is a good view across the river from the mosque's eastern side.
