Rasfannu is a relatively new strip of reclaimed beach at the western end of Malé, opened in the mid-2010s as part of the city's slow attempt to give itself more public space. It is cleaner and noticeably quieter than the better-known Artificial Beach on the east coast and the sunsets over the lagoon are better.
The beach has a paved promenade, kids' play equipment, a few cafés and a steady evening crowd of Maldivian families and joggers. Swimming is permitted in the marked area; modest dress is expected. Easy to combine with a wander through the Maafannu district before heading back to the centre.
