Getting Around

The town centre of Hpa-an is small enough to navigate on foot. For the surrounding countryside and the cave circuit, you need a bicycle, motorbike, or arranged transport.

Bicycles are rented from most guesthouses for around 2,000 kyat per day. The terrain is flat and the roads are generally good in the dry season. The classic cave circuit covers about 50 kilometres and most fit cyclists can complete it in a day.

Motorbike taxis are available at the market and near the bus station. Tuk-tuks can take larger groups. Some guesthouses organise group tours by jeep or shared van, which is particularly useful in wet season when cycling is difficult.
