A long-running local favourite on 84th Street South at 23rd Street, Thai Yai serves simple Shan and Thai-influenced dishes at very low prices. The grilled chicken, fresh salads, and noodle soups are consistently good and the portions generous.
This is the kind of place that locals eat at rather than tourists — plastic stools, open-fronted, and busy at mealtimes. The prices have risen since the days when it fed the Asia trail for almost nothing, but it remains excellent value.
