Anisakan Falls

Anisakan Falls is the most dramatic of the waterfalls near Pyin Oo Lwin. The approach involves a steep descent through forest — around 45 minutes each way on foot — before you emerge at a plunge pool fed by a cascade dropping sharply through the tree cover. The hike is worth it: the falls are genuinely beautiful, and the forest path is quiet and birdy in the early morning.

The trailhead is about 8 km from town by road; hire a motorbike taxi or negotiate with a horse carriage driver. The falls are at their most powerful during and just after the monsoon (June–September), when the surrounding jungle is vivid green and the volume of water is highest. Bring good footwear for the steep descent — it can be slippery.
