November to April is the dry season on the Rakhine coast — warm, sunny, and calm. The sea is at its best for swimming and boat trips, and all the resorts are open. December and January are the peak months, with the most visitors and the highest prices.
May brings the monsoon, and from June through October the coast gets heavy rain and rough seas. Most resorts close and the beach is largely deserted. Thandwe Airport operates reduced schedules and some flights are cancelled entirely. The landscape turns dramatically green, but there is little reason for most visitors to come during this period.
