Getting Around

Public transport in Azad Kashmir consists mainly of minivans and Hiace wagons that run between the major towns. Services are frequent on the main routes connecting Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Mirpur, and Kotli, though schedules are informal -- vehicles leave when full.

Within the larger towns, suzukis (small shared vans) and auto-rickshaws handle local trips. For reaching remote valleys and villages, hiring a private jeep or car is often the only option. Roads are steep and winding throughout the region, and some stretches become impassable during heavy rain or snowfall. If you are driving yourself, a sturdy vehicle with good clearance is essential.
