The Grand Trunk Road slices through Gujranwala, and the bazaars that have grown up along its central section are the commercial heart of the city. Cloth wholesalers, electronics, household goods, and a particular concentration of cutlery and steelware shops — Gujranwala has been a metalworking centre since the 19th century, and the city still makes much of Pakistan's domestic kitchen equipment.
The bazaars are busiest in the late afternoon and early evening. Bring patience for the traffic and an appetite for the food stalls that fill every junction.
