Eating Out

Gujranwala takes its food seriously. The city is famous across Punjab for its street food — grilled meats, kebabs, and the simple pleasure of fresh nan with chai for breakfast. The bazaars around Model Town and GT Road are lined with stalls and small restaurants serving tikkas late into the evening.

A few specialities are worth seeking out: Chiraghdin tikka shop on Sialkot Road and the original branch of Phajja's on GT Road both serve the city's signature charcoal-grilled mutton tikka. Salahuddin Sweets has been selling Punjabi mithai — gulab jamun, barfi, and the local speciality, rasmalai — for over fifty years. For breakfast, the halwa puri stalls behind the Clock Tower are reliable.
