The Galyat hills around Murree offer excellent day trips. Islamabad is only 30 kilometers to the southwest, with the Faisal Mosque and Margalla Hills National Park. To the northeast, Nathia Gali and Ayubia National Park have hiking trails through pine and oak forest, and the Bhurban plateau is home to the Pearl Continental resort. Patriata, just south of town, has a popular chairlift with panoramic views.
