The main bazaar runs along the highway through town and is the place where Nushki's identity as a border crossroads is clearest. The goods reflect the geography: Iranian saffron and tea, Afghan dried fruit, Chinese plastics that have come up by road from Karachi, locally made Baloch embroidery and rough hand-knotted rugs.
Trade is brisk in the early morning and slows in the heat of the afternoon, when shops shutter for a few hours. The chaikhanas along the main road do a good simple lunch — pulao, lamb karahi, fresh nan — and are the easiest way for an outsider to talk to local traders.
