Quetta's bazaars run off Jinnah Road and Liaquat Bazaar in the town centre. The two things to look for are carpets and dry fruit. Balochi rugs woven by the nomadic tribes of the province are coarser than Persian city carpets but considerably more authentic than the Turkoman copies you find in Karachi or Lahore — small kilims and saddle bags are easily portable and reasonably priced if you bargain. Afghani carpets, brought across the border at Chaman, turn up here in volume too, alongside Pashtun fur coats, embroidered waistcoats and beaded sandals. The dry-fruit stalls — pistachios, almonds, pine nuts, dried apricots and mulberries — are some of the best in Pakistan.
