Getting There

Quetta is connected to the rest of Pakistan by road, rail and air, though all three approaches are slow. PIA flies daily from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad into Quetta International Airport. The RCD Highway runs south to Karachi and west via Koh-e-Taftan into Iran (Tehran is 1,435 km away); the road via Sibi connects to Punjab and upper Sindh; the road via Loralai, Fort Munro and DG Khan is the shorter route to Multan; and the Chaman Road is the link to the Afghan border, four hours away.

Pakistan Railways runs the famous Bolan Mail and Jaffar Express from Karachi up the Bolan Pass — a long, slow journey across the desert and then a steep climb into the mountains, but a memorable one. Foreign travellers should expect to need a No Objection Certificate and may be required to take a police escort on arrival.
