Sebastia Archaeological Park

Sebastia Archaeological Park preserves the remains of ancient Samaria-Sebaste on the hill above the modern village of Sebastia, northwest of Nablus. The site has layers from Canaanite, Israelite, Hellenistic, Herodian, Roman, and Byzantine periods, with ruins spread across the slope rather than confined to a single monument.

The village below adds another reason to come, with the traditional tomb of John the Baptist and an old stone setting that feels very different from central Nablus. It is one of the strongest archaeological side trips in the northern West Bank.
