When to Go

Nablus has a Mediterranean climate moderated by its inland valley position. Spring (March to May) is the best time to visit — temperatures are pleasant (15–25°C), the surrounding hills are green, and the olive orchards on the slopes below Mount Gerizim are in bloom. Autumn is also good. Summer (June to August) is hot and dry, with temperatures regularly reaching 35°C; the city is functional but less comfortable for walking.

The Samaritan Passover on Mount Gerizim, calculated by the Samaritan calendar (usually falls in April or May), is one of the most extraordinary religious spectacles in the region and worth timing a visit around. Contact the Samaritan community in advance if you want to attend.

Winter can bring cold rain and occasionally snow, but the city remains active and the souq is fully operational year-round.
