Casa Mariquit

Jaro heritage house associated with the Javellana and Lopez families of Iloilo.

Casa Mariquit is one of Iloilo's old Jaro houses, a lived-in reminder of the sugar-era families whose wealth and politics shaped the city. The house is associated with Maria Salvacion "Mariquit" Javellana-Lopez and the Lopez family, including Fernando Lopez, who served as vice president of the Philippines.

Do not expect a large formal museum. The appeal is the domestic scale: hardwood floors, family objects, old photographs, and the feeling of stepping into a private world that has only partly become public heritage. It fits naturally with a Jaro walk that also includes the cathedral and the district's surviving mansions.
