Salcedo Weekend Market

The Salcedo Weekend Market, held every Saturday morning in Salcedo Village, is one of the best farmers' markets in Metro Manila. It draws a mix of upscale grocery vendors, artisan food producers, and home cooks selling Filipino regional specialties from across the archipelago. The selection of ready-to-eat food is particularly good: bibingka, longsilog breakfasts, kutsinta, local pastries, and all manner of fresh fruit, vegetables, and cold-pressed juices.

The market occupies Jaime Velasquez Park, a compact green space in one of Makati's quieter residential enclaves just a few blocks from the Ayala Center. It runs from roughly 7am to 2pm and is busiest between 8 and 10am, when the crowds can make navigating the stalls slow going. Come early for the best selection and a less frenetic atmosphere. The market is popular with both expats and well-heeled locals, and prices reflect that, though the quality is consistently high.

A Sunday equivalent, the Legazpi Sunday Market, operates in Legazpi Village about a kilometre away and is slightly larger. Both are worth visiting if your stay overlaps with a weekend. The surrounding streets of Salcedo Village — residential townhouses, tree-lined pavements — are themselves a pleasant contrast to the Ayala Center bustle.
